1. What is a TASP system for medical transcription?
   

   A medical Transcription Application Software Provider (TASP) is a software program from a vendor company that manages the day to day production operations of a medical transcription company. These types of programs are usually provided as a service and are sold on a subscription basis.

2. Can I not run my medical transcription business using free email?
   

   Email and FTP programs can be used to manage the transcription process, but it would take  a lot of manual work to keep track and manage the whole process. Things like keeping track of the turn around times, job templates, line counts, job assignments and re-assignments and hundreds of other things are impossible to do with emails, and these would need a specialized software system.

3. How is a TASP HIPAA compliant?
   

   All user access to the application is password protected. Our servers are located in the USA and transcribed documents are stored in fully secured data centers. Files that are being processed need not be downloaded but can be processed directly on the USA server, so that no local copies of sensitive documents are stored outside the server.

4. Can I not hire a programmer to write for me a simple FTP program?
   

   Our web application has taken teams of people multiple years to develop. We have a team user interface designers, web developers, database programmers, system analysts and quality testers that collaborated to create a full function application. Unless you are a big corporation willing to invest the same amount of time and money, you won’t be able to come up with a fully functional and working software program. A medical transcription company would be better if they invest their resources in client acquisition and delivering excellent work, rather than in dealing with software specifications and development.

5. Why do you have a subscription model for the TASP software?
   

   A software subscription model has multiple advantages for the clients:

   • Substantially lower cost since the full development cost can be shared by many clients
   • Protection from product obsolescence, because the software is continuously being maintained and improved.
